Early Life & Education

Amit Jain was born in the Pink City of India, Jaipur of Rajasthan, on November 12, 1976. He belongs to a Jain family and shared his childhood with a younger brother named Anurag. Amit’s father was the sole breadwinner of the family.

He spent most of his early life in the city of his hometown, Jaipur. Amit has done his high school education at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School in his hometown. After his secondary education, Amit took up sciences and later passed Engineering Entrance Exam after that.

Then he got accepted the IIT Delhi. After passing his graduating from IIT Delhi, Amit went on to pursue his first job at a software development firm called Trilogy in 2000.

At that time, he was responsible for developing a website addressed at www.yourbillbuddy.com. Amit Jain worked at Trilogy till 2007.

Entrepreneurial Achievements

But Amit and his younger brother Anurag had to leave their job because of their father’s fatal disease, which was getting worse. In 2006 when their father died, Amit and Anurag came back home to handle their family business of selling gemstones.

But, two of them did not have any interest in the family business. So, they planned to start a software company instead. This company was named GirnarSoft. The company soon grew enough to start CarDekho in 2008.

The Jain brothers developed the idea of starting CarDekho after they attended the Auto Expo held in New Delhi. So they designed a porta for delivering information to potential buyers about cars. The information was arranged in a way to help make buying decisions about the cars.

They also developed an intuitive way of connecting the buyers and sellers of old cars through the websites they were building. But the start was never easy. While developing the website, Amit Jain and his brother faced a loss of Rs.1 Cr in the share and stock market.

This huge loss was a massive stab at the heart of the business. But, in 2015, the business finally started to pick up pace. The Jain brothers finally saw a rise in the graph of the CarDekho business. The portal soon started to return the Jain brothers with a good amount of earnings – almost more than what they had initially thought of. This success also helped them get the attention of an American investment firm named Sequoia Capital.

Later, they merged the CarDekho website with Gaadi, Zigwheels, Carmudi Philippines, and Carddrift. Once CarDekho was a success, the siblings were ready to launch other businesses like InsurenceDekho, CollegeDekho, and BikeDekho.

Three of these businesses were also able to grow and expand in their respective industries and generate revenue.

Personal Life

Amit Jain got married to Pihu Jain. Pihu used to work at Girnar Private Limited. Pihu also works as the vice president of the software company the Jain brothers initially started. Soon the couple was blessed with twin sons. The twin sons of Amit Jain are named Aayan Jain and Aahil Jain.

Amit Jain Shark Tank

Amit Jain started to appear in the Shark Tank TV series in 2022. After so many complexities with the former Shark Tank judge Ahsneer Grover, Amit Jain took over to replace him. Amit Jain has been functioning as one of the show’s judges since January 2023.

Even Ghazal Alagh will also not be joining the show any further. The Shark Tank show started to air on January 2, 2023, and Amit has made his way to this show as one of the current judges.
