When the business started in 1997, Anupam had a small team of 10 to 15 people working for his online
But Indian residents hesitated to use the platform at that time since Internet services were very poor and Internet adoption was difficult. Besides, conservative parents would rather follow traditional matchmakers. Although the growing number of Internet users in the US was pretty encouraging for Anupam, it was not the same for the resident Indians.
During the start of the 2000s, the internet industry suffered a massive crisis. As a result, Shaadi.com also saw some downfalls during that time.
