Jack Dorsey is the son of Tim and Marcia Dorsey. From his mother’s side, Jack Dorsey is part Italian. Dorsey was born to a father who used to work in a mass-produced spectrometer company. His mother was a housewife.
Dorsey attended Bishop DuBourg High School as a boy. When he was a teenager, Jack Dorsey would often spend time working as a fashion model. But, when he was turning 14, Jack Dorsey became interested in dispatch routing. In 1995 Dorsey started to attend the University of Missouri–Rolla. However, he was transferred to New York University in 1997.
But, NYU could not keep him caged in the conventional boundary of academic life. He dropped out after two years of attending the university. He Came out with the idea of Twitter during his days at NYU.

As I said before, Jack Dorsey became interested in Dispatch programming at a very early age. In 2000, he started his first entrepreneurial adventure. This made him start his first company named Oakland. Dorsey used to dispatch couriers, emergency services, and taxis using the web. He also worked on projects such as a frictionless service market and networks of medical devices. This was when the idea of Twitter became prominent in his mind.
1. Twitter
LiveJournal, an AOL messenger, inspired Jack Dorsey to create Twitter. He was thinking of making a real-time web-based short message or status communication service.
Odeo, at that time, was interested in text messaging services. So, Dorsey and Biz Stone approached them and showcased their idea.
It took them only two weeks to create a prototype of Twitter. Odeo was interested in their idea, and Evan Williams funded the project helping Jack Dorsey create what we know and use as Twitter. Alongside Ev Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass, Jack Dorsey co-founded Twitter in 2006.
Dorsey oversaw the company during two rounds of investment by venture capitalists. However, following some issues, he had to step down as the CEO in 2008. But he came back as the CEO again in 2015. Dorsey officially stepped down as the CEO on November 29, 2021. This time he was stepping down for a good while the former CEO, Parag Agarwal, took over for him.
However, when Elon Musk bought Twitter, Jack Dorsey was still holding his 2.4% ownership of this popular social media platform.
2. Block
Once he was done with Twitter, Jack Dorsey went to pursue one of his previous projects, later named Block. Jack Dorsey and Jim Mckelvey co-founded a small platform that would allow users to send and receive credit and debit cards using their mobile devices.
This small app was previously called Square. It is like a mini swiping machine attached to the iPad, iPod, or android devices through the headphone jacks. It was mini card reader users could swipe their card on and select an amount, and transfer money. Senders can also sign their names for confirmation.
This system also allows the user to send paperless receipts through text messages and emails. When Dorsey started this company, it only had 10 employees. It increased to 100 by 2011. By 2012, Square became a billion-dollar company, according to business insider. On December 1, 2021, Square was renamed Block by CEO Jack Dorsey.
3. Bluesky
First, a web-based social networking app, then a platform for currency transfer; now, Jack Dorsey is developing a Twitter spin-off based on decentralized technology.

Born and raised in Missouri, Jack Dorsey could not miss an opportunity to do something for his hometown. In March 2016, Jack Dorsey funded 600 schools in Missouri. Also, in 2019, he donated $350,000 to the cause of YouTuber MrBeast, who pledged to plant 20 million trees by the end of 2019. Dorsey also donated $24 million to many relief efforts. In 2020, Jack donated $10 million to Boston University’s Center for Antiracist Research.

Jack Dorsey is a big fan of Yoga, meditation, and fashion modeling. His pursuit of these objectives made him step down as the Twitter CEO during the early period of the platform.
