When we first started to craft a list of the top 10 YouTubers in the world, we did not have to think too much about the name on the top. It is PewDiePie, without a doubt.
He is known for his famous roasting and gaming videos that he uploads on Youtube. It is needless to say that he single-handedly spearheaded the youtube gaming community at the start. But gradually, he started to do varieties of content and become who the world knows today. PewDiePie is an example of Youtube success which inspired thousands of content creators.

Who Is PewDiePie?
PewDiepie, or Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, is an online personality and Youtuber based in Sweden. He has been creating gaming content for Youtube audiences for years. Felix is usually known for creating funny and comedic content and different types of game streaming.
His personality and funny nature, and the way he interacts with his fans have made Pewdiepie who he is today. Felix or Pewdiepie started creating Youtube videos back in 2010, and back in the day, he used to only make horror game streaming videos. Once he registered on youtube, he was only making videos of himself playing different games.
Pewdiepie never stopped making videos. He started creating videos and kept on uploading them consistently. Over the years, his channel started to see a growth he never imagined. On August 15, 2013, he was the reigning champion of Youtube with the most subscribers on the platform.

PewDiePie: Early Life
PewDiePie, or Felix, is from Sweden. Gothenburg, the city he belongs to, is a significantly large city on the western coast of Sweden. The country is home to more than half a million citizens. On top of that, it has one of the largest ports in Sweden. Gothenburg is also the home to Volvo Cars’ headquarters.
So, this is the birthplace of our favourite and very own Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, or PewDiePie. Pewdiepie was born on October 24, 1989, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Felix was born to Lotta Kristine Johanna & Ulf Chrisitan Kjellbeg. Both of them were corporate workers. But he started doing completely different things from what his parents do for a living.
Pewdiepie, or Felix, had an interest in art and gaming from early childhood.
As he has revealed, he used to draw characters from his favourite video games. Sometimes, he would draw Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Donkey Kong.
But what he was blessed with was the huge gaming community of Gothenburg. Felix used to often skip classes in school to play video games with his friends. During his last year of high school, Felix started selling his art through his grandmother’s gallery. He saved the money he earned by selling art and bought a computer. After getting his first computer, Felix started his youtube channel.
Felix was a student at the Chalmers University of Technology, where he learned economics and technology. But, he did not stick to his study for too long. Later, Felix revealed that he left because he lost interest in his studies, not because he wanted to start his youtube channel.
Pewdiepie’s Youtube Journey
PewDiepie started his Youtube Channel in 2006. But only in 2010, he started to take it really seriously. When he began his first channel, he gave it a funny name called Pew Die. This sound is the noise made by the laser gun. When Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare game in 2007, it started a new era of video game commentary and recording oneself playing the game.
1. The Struggling Phase
When PewDiepie left college and stopped pursuing his college degree, his parents stopped helping him financially. So he had to take a job as a harbour captain. He was also selling his art and prints and working in a hot dog stand. Earlier, he was selling art to buy a computer; now, it was for him to start the Youtube channel now we know and love.
Felix knew that there were too many Youtube channels. But not many of them were doing gaming videos. So, he took advantage of the time and started doing what he did best – creating comedic gameplay videos and doing video game commentaries.
2. Road To A Million Subscribers
What kickstarted his channel to fame was the game named “Amnesia: The Dark Descent.” Seeing this growing popularity, PewDiepie felt he needed to do even more. That is when he diversified his content and started making Friday with PewDiePie content. These were intuitive vlogs that his audience started to enjoy.
This hard work started to pay off when he got his first one million subscribers. It only took him a few more months to reach more than 2 million subscribers.
3. Becoming The Top Youtuber In The World
He put all of his hard work and consistency into making this channel a success. In 2012, PewDiePie had more than 2 million subscribers. But that was not the end of the line for him. Felix wanted to grow even further.
This was when PewDiePie signed a contract with Maker Studios – a network allowing his channel to grow more. PewDiePie hit 10 million subscribers a year after. PewDiePie got even got a certificate from Guinness World Records for being the top YouTuber with the most subscribers on planet Earth.
PewdiePie was becoming a global phenomenon soon. His channel had 13 million subscribers in 2013. His videos started getting more than 300 million views every month. In 2015, his videos had a sum of 10 billion views.
But, this sky-kissing success was not without controversies. Some of the controversies were related to Maker Studios, some offensive content, and his general frustration with the algorithm of Youtube.
But it all came to pass. So, how many subscribers does Pewdiepie have? Currently, PewDiePie has 111 subscribers. Yes, the current reigning champion of Youtube is indeed Mr. Beast. But we cannot forget the pioneer who started it all.
Personal Life
A man has his ups and downs. But everything becomes bearable when he finds love. That’s what happened with Felix as well. He was dating Marzia Bisgnin for a long time and finally married her in 2019. They met with each other in 2011 through a mutual friend. The relationship was going online until Felix decided to fly to Italy and meet Marzia. Romantic, isn’t it?
The couple was moving to and fro between Italy and Sweden. But eventually, Felix decided to settle down in Brighton and Hove, England. He claimed to choose this place to avoid all the commotion that comes with being famous.
